Springer Spaniel is  extremely smart and learn very quickly. The Springer is the right choice for either a city or country home because they are so eager to please, loyal and like people. Many owner find humor in their energetic and playful animals that bring a smile to their faces. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are wonderful with children and are a perfect choice for families. Of course as with any dog breed, children should always be supervised to make sure they are not antagonizing the dog.

The Springer brand of dogs are generally friendly and always looking to make their owners happy. Their temperment has been compared to the popular Golden Retriever. If it is what their families are doing, they are perfectly content with just laying around the house. Human contact helps them to adjust and adapt to different levels of activity. Springer Spaniels are incredibly affectionate! We know this from experience. As breeders, we have raised a lot of puppies and can absolutely testify to this fact.

As a breed, the English Springer Spaniel is a medium sized sporting dog, and can weigh anywhere from 35-55 pounds at adulthood. Springers can remain in good health most of their lives which can span 10 to 14 years. Field bred Spingers have short hair and are generally more active than the show bred types. All Springers have their tails docked shortly after birth, but the length of the tail differs between two “lifestyles.” The tails are docked shorter for Springers who are shown, whereas the working, field-bred Springers have longer tails so as to be an efficient signal for hunting.

A purebred English Springer Spaniel has a coat color of either liver and white or black and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. They are also known for having a white blaze on their faces usually down the middle.

If you need a good hunting dog, with plenty of energy, who is ready to sniff out some ‘game’, English Springer Spaniels are the breed for you. Springers love the water and would enjoy spending the entire day outside with their owners as they are not especially affected by weather. Springers have been popular as pets and working dogs for a very long time. This is because they are an extremely old and well-established breed. They are one of the oldest and best established hunting and gun dog breed.

So I hope you can see why we think Springers are a wonderful fit for many different situations, lifestyles, and families. We certainly believe and have experienced how these loving animals can find a place in anyone’s heart and home.
